Forum Meetings

The Detention Forum hosts meetings every quarter in central London to promote dialogues, discussions and debates on immigration detention for groups and organisations who work with immigration detainees or who are concerned about the use of immigration detention. During the meetings, some participating NGOs also discuss their shared strategy for change. If you want to be kept informed of these meetings, please contact Eiri Ohtani at detentionforum(at)gmail.com.

30 people attended the meeting which was thought provoking and interesting. If you would like to receive the notes of the meeting, please contact asylumrights(at)gmail.com.

Three members of the International Detention Coalition (http://idcoalition.org/) will be running workshops in the UK to share their experience of engaging the governments on the issue of immigration detention.  They will explore three examples: Australia, USA and Belgium.

Each workshop will touch on the following issues:

  • How did the discussion with the government start/happen?
  • How did you mobilise support?  Who supported you?
  • What successes and difficulties did you experience?
  • How did different sector organisations work together?

We will have an hour of panel discussion after the workshops.  We hope this will provide space for the attendees to ask questions to the presenters, as well as share thoughts and information on what is currently happening in the UK.

By invitation only.  Please contact Eiri Ohtani at asylumrights(at)googlemail.com for further information.
