Regular updates: Many groups run their own newsletters and email alerts for their supporters which provide up-to-date information on immigration detention. Visit their websites to find out how you can sign up. For instance, daily email news round-up from National Coalition of Anti-Deportation Campaigns is comprehensive and very useful. Institute of Race Relations also provides email updates which sometimes include news on asylum and detention.
Reports/dossiers: Many organisations publish reports to highlight the problems experienced by people held in immigration detention. You can also find out more about these organisations’ activities by reading their annual reports, or simply by visiting their websites. Alternatively, HMIP (Her Majesty’s Inspectorate Prisons) regularly inspect Immigration Removal Centres and publish their findings. Each Immigration Removal Centre also has an Independent Monitoring Board who will visit the centre and report on its findings.
Press/media Contact: Many organisations are prepared to be interviewed by the journalists and provide information to the press. Please contact detentionforum(at)gmail.com with your query and we will do our best to get you in touch with the right organisation.
