The Independent Chief Inspector of the UK Border Agency asks NGOs to help them inspect immigration detention better

John Vine, the Independent Chief Inspector of the UK Border Agency, spoke at the last Detention Forum quarterly meeting, and asked NGOs to help him shape the that immigration detention can be inspected by his office.  The deadline is 13th May 2011.  Below is a summary of the key information.  For further information, including what was discussed with John Vine at the DF meeting, please contact Eiri Ohtani at asylumrights(at)gmail.com.

During 2011/12, the Independent Chief Inspector of the UK Border Agency (ICIUKBA) will be conducting two thematic inspections on immigration detention.  They will focus on: 

  • Detained Fast Track (May 2011 to September 2011)
  • Immigration casework in Immigration Removal Centres, jointly with Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Prisons (March 2011 to April 2012)

In preparation for this work, ICIUKBA would like to hear from NGOs about their concerns with the above issues.  ICIUKBA hopes that the Information and suggestions made by the NGO will enable them to develop an appropriate and effective inspection framework.
